me Dad. Image property of Ben Spiegel. Hi, I'm Hank Van Sickle. I play both electric and upright bass. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa., I currently live in Los Angeles.
I'm available for any style of music; my favorites are blues, jazz, old school soul and R&B and funk. Experienced in symphonic, theater, rock, americana, folk, country, rockabilly, punk, world, pop, etc.
I've played with lots of great folks; it all started with my dad Rodney, who graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music and played double bass with the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra and Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

John and me. Image property of Peter Jenner. Bluesbreakers and Eric Clapton. Image property of Barry and Kathy Cheung. From 2000 thru 2008 I played all over the world with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. About eight and a half years. According to John that's the longest stint of any bass player in the Bluesbreakers.
During that time I got to play with some genuine icons; Eric Clapton, Steve Miller, Larry Coryell, Gary Moore, Peter Green, Kim Simmonds, Mick Fleetwood, and a bunch of others.

Bluesbreakers and Mick Taylor. Image property of Martin Rodwell. Kim Simmonds, Buddy, Me, Mick Fleetwood, John, and Joe. Other tours include: Mick Taylor, Robben Ford, Rosie Flores, Candye Kane, James Intveld, and Friends of Dean Martinez.
Employers include: Jimmy Smith, Wanda Jackson, Yma Sumac, Judy Tenuta and the Beach Cities Symphony.
I've played in every country in Western Europe, Scandinavia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Lebanon, Australia, Japan, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Argentina and 47 of the 50 states in the USA.

Bluesbreakers and Robben Ford. Image property of Marie Provost. Gary Moore, me and Buddy. Image property of Joe Yuele. I am an avid photographer. My photographs have been used on CD's, in trade shows and published in magazines. Credits include the cover shot for John Mayall's "Road Dogs" CD, liner photos for many of John's and other folks' CD's and Elmore Magazine. I've posted a bunch here, and plan to keep updating them. Those plans don't always work out. Most of the images posted here are low quality. Higher quality images are available.
